Employers, students flock to Health Care Career Fair

Students from the Career and Technical Institute’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program as well as students from Dutchess BOCES' Adult Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program found a plethora of potential employers eager to share information about opportunities within their organization at BOCES’ Annual Health Care Career Fair on May 31.


Bubble Bus is a popping good time

For the first time, but hopefully not the last, students at Salt Point Center enjoyed trying to catch and pop bubbles near the school’s playground, courtesy of the Bubble Bus. Physical education teacher Scott Calcagni wanted to bring the bus to SPC after seeing it as a teacher at Spackenkill Elementary School and noticed how much fun the children had.

John Zehnick took off his New York Yankees hat to put on his new team’s cap. After he signed his name, he was handed a jersey – red with blue pinstripes.


Theater students at the Resilience Academy are “Acting Up!”

Laughter poured out of the theater classroom as Shawn Giglio and Micheal Ford performed an original scene titled “Isabella’s 18th birthday” for staff at the “Acting Up!” theater showcase May 22.
The performance was one of six put on at the showcase, where Resilience Academy Intro to Theater, Level II and Level III theater students put what they have learned in class into action.


CTI student earns state officer seat at SkillsUSA Championships

SkillsUSA peers from across New York voted Vincent Ruffolo to a state officer position, making him the fourth Dutchess BOCES Career and Technical Institute student elected to such a position since 1984.
“Skills is an amazing organization,” shared Ruffolo, a junior in the HVAC program. “It’s helped me become the best version of myself and encourages me to keep growing.”


Agriculture research yields top spot for CTI student

Three Dutchess BOCES Plant and Animal Sciences students traveled to Syracuse to present projects at the 2024 Future Farmers of America state competition, with one returning with first place in their division.
Maleah Bishop, Lucy Mann and Bryanna Coakley competed individually.


Pegasus students paint the future of their program

Pegasus students are painting the future of their program through a new legacy project. With the help of art teacher Michael Hollick, Pegasus students set out to create a mural that all current and future Pegasus students will have a hand in.


CTI’s Scott receiving community service award

Career & Technical Institute special education teacher Erin Scott will receive a Community Service Award for Excellence from the Mid-Hudson School Study Council at its annual meeting and awards celebration in the Fieldstone Middle School auditorium in Thiells May 8.
“It’s nice to be recognized,” said Scott. “I just do what I do because it’s the right thing for the kids.”


BOCES honors food service staff

 Today marked the first time Dutchess BOCES celebrated School Lunch Hero Day (May 3), honoring food services staff who work hard to provide healthy meals to students across campus.


Security and law students earn new certification

Did you know that there were 106 opioid involved overdose deaths in Dutchess County in 2022? Some of these deaths could have been avoided with the use of a medicine called Naloxone, commonly referred to by the brand name, Narcan.
