Teacher: Jesselle Cudjoe
Early Childhood Education I
Course overview: The program in the junior year involves students in early childhood philosophies and integrates hands-on experiences. Students are encouraged to be leaders of their learning as they actively engage in discussions centered around developmentally appropriate practices, professional standards and competencies, and codes of ethical conduct. In addition, students will engage in collaborative teamwork, public speaking, and math and ELA coursework. Some core practices involve developing lesson plans, designing classroom environments and building their pedagogical knowledge in early childhood.
Early Childhood Education II
Course overview: In the senior year, the early childhood students will focus on deepening their career readiness to become highly effective early childhood educators. The program will assist students with defining and demonstrating their role in the field as early childhood educators. In conjunction with continuously reviewing professional standards and competencies, codes of ethical conduct, and current state licensure, students will be developing their teaching philosophies guided by educational theories and practical teaching applications. In the second year, the academic practices involve observing, recording, and examining students' development, evaluating children's books and shows, leading classroom reading and small group activities, and developing their professional portfolios.
Academics: Career literacy and math are integrated into Early Childhood Education I and II.
