Welding
Course overview: Our career pathway to become an Welder consists of both instruction and hands-on learning. The career pathway is broken into separate modules:
- Welding Foundations 1, stick welding, with an OSHA 30 certification
- Welding Foundations 2, MIK welding, prerequisite is Welding Foundations 1
- Welding Foundations 3 TIG Welding, prerequisite is Welding Foundations 1
Module 1 is a prerequisite for Module 2 and 3. However, Module 2 and 3 do not have to be taken consecutively.
Welding Foundations 1 starts with the OSHA 30 course. Welding Foundations 1 is an initial introduction to “Stick” Welding, with theory, background, and safety. Students will practice welding skills on flat and perpendicular metals.
Welding 2 provides time for review and practice of previously learned skills as it introduces skills and necessary concepts. These include blueprint reading, math in welding, welding symbols, and techniques using SMAW (beads, fillets, groove welds with backing and open root groove welds). Students will perform flat welds, horizontal welds, and progress to vertical and overhead welding.
Welding 3 - TIG Welding produces clean results and is the preferred method for automotive work and artistic metal work. This course is designed to teach students how to perfect the coordination required to create strong welds on a variety of metals creating high quality welds.
Classes are taught by welding instructors who have career experience working with welding in the field of construction. Career Counselors will support students to learn about available careers in the field, develop resumes and interview skills, and build professionalism throughout the courses.
The Adult Learning Institute also offers a non-career path welding course called Welding Fundamentals. This is a 10 class, 30-hour Enrichment course for those who are interested in learning how to weld, or to wish to improve their welding skills.
