Chloe Yagastis arrived a few minutes late to the Pegasus 2023 Award Ceremony.
She was having her hair done in the Career & Technical Institute’s cosmetology class for the Pegasus Prom later in the day.

The award ceremony and prom were held in the Alternative High School Learning Commons, which was decorated by the CTI’s early childhood and cosmetology students.
The prom featured dancing, baked goods from CTI’s culinary students and corsages/boutonnieres made of paper.
“I like this prom,” said Yagastis. “I enjoy dancing. It was fun.”
The prom offered students the opportunity to socialize with each other and with members of the CTI community.
“I like how we’re bridging the gap with our students and the CTI students,” said April Hart, a special education teacher in her first year at CTI. “I think that’s really important. It’s a life skill for everyone.”
The day started with the program’s first award ceremony. Students were called up to receive an award as their name, award name and picture appeared on a large flat screen.
“We just wanted to make it was a full-day activity for the kids, give them something to look forward to and show them how hard they’ve worked this year,” said Krystine Kuter, special education teacher. “Sometimes we don’t recognize that in the classroom at the end of the year. It was nice to be able to do that this year.”
Nicholas Millas, principal of CTI, spoke briefly to students at the award ceremony.
“I’m very proud of all of you. You’re special to me. Great job this year,” he said.
Hart summed up the day and her first year at CTI. “It’s been amazing,” she said. “I really liked learning who the students are. They’re all very unique. They all have something to share. They make me smile every day.”
