What: Cupcakes for CAPE – A Cupcake Bake Off to Raise Awareness of Substance Abuse
When: April 26, 2014
Where:  Dutchess BOCES, Salt Point Center - Gymnasium, 5 BOCES Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

All high school and middle school students in Dutchess County are invited to participate in a bake off competition for best cupcake in the county! This 2nd annual event serves multiple purposes: 1) To showcase the talents of our students. 2) To raise awareness about youth risk behaviors, specifically the increased use of alcohol, marijuana, and opiates among adolescents and young adults. 3) To raise funds for prevention and early intervention – a top priority for Dutchess County.

Student teams or individuals are invited to compete for fun and prizes. All proceeds go to the Marathon Project, a long distance running program sponsored by CAPE.<--break->

 

There is no entry fee for the student baker. There will be a $5.00 entry fee charged for all other attendees.

Rules:

1. All contestants must submit the application form to Cupcakes for CAPE, c/o Dutchess BOCES CTI, 5 BOCES Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 by Monday April 21, 2014.

2. Each contestant or team must prepare and bake 36 regular sized cupcakes:

  • One cupcake shall be for display purposes. Contestant is responsible for display.
  • 18 cupcakes are to be sold as part of a fundraiser for CAPE.
  • 17 cupcakes are for the Tasting Competition (cut into four quarters).

3. Contestants must be present on April 26.

4. In addition, all contestants must provide a COMPLETE list of ingredients on a typed 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. This will be displayed alongside your cupcakes.

5. First, Second and Third place prizes will be awarded in each of the following categories:

- Most Creative
- Healthiest
- Best in Show
- Most Decorative

Judges will choose one winner in each of the following categories:

  • Best Junior Baker (Middle School Students Only)
  • Taster’s Choice (Most Popular)
