
Students will learn the importance of confidentiality as it relates to HIPPA and FERPA as well as acquire the skills necessary for the job. Emphasis will be on appropriate communication, professionalism, teamwork, collaboration, and the techniques for lifting and toileting students. Students will receive education on sexual harassment, various disabilities and support strategies, understanding their responsibilities of implementing an Individual Education Plan, how to communicate with nonverbal students and receive an overview of Personal Protective Equipment.
Upon completion of this course, students will get assistance with the application pathway through Civil Service and an interview for employment with Dutchess BOCES HR. In order to be eligible for employment, candidates must clear a criminal background check.
