Dutchess BOCES Career and Technical Institute and Resilience Academy students were given the opportunity to hear from admissions counselors from Dutchess Community College and learn about the wide range of opportunities available to them.
“We want you to take what you love and learn all of the possibilities that come with it. If you’re not sure what you love, we want to help you figure it out,” one admissions counselor told students during the BOCES Blitz – a three-day event from Dec. 8-10.
DCC has over 50 academic programs designed to serve learners of all kinds. From the most successful of students to students who have struggled through school, DCC has opportunities for everyone.
After hearing about the different pathways and possibilities, students were able to participate in an instant decision event where they applied and received their acceptance during one short session. This easy accessibility to higher education was a meaningful opportunity for our students.
CTI student, Najib Haddad, in the Automotive Technology program said, "Getting this done now helps me stay on track for the future."
Another student, Caitlin Klay from the Fashion Design and Merchandising program, shared, “I liked how open and honest the admissions counselor was about building a community at the school. It seems like there’s something for everyone there.”
In total, 63 Dutchess BOCES 63 studentswere accepted to DCC during this event, 56 students from CTI and seven from RA.
“I believe this was a great opportunity to show our students at CTI that college is not just a possibility, but an achievable next step on their journey to career readiness, and I hope this inspires and pushes others to take similar steps with confidence,” CTI Principal Jason Lloyd said.
