Related services are for students enrolled in classes run by Dutchess BOCES.

Assistive Technology

Certified personnel provide direct and indirect support service in the integration and use of assistive technology devices, materials, and strategies to students, educational teams, and families.

This service includes assistive technology evaluations, student technology consultations, and training to students and staff to promote the integration and use of technology tools within the academic environment.

Follow-up support is provided upon request, including staff development.

Speech

A certified and/or licensed speech therapist provides evaluation, consultation, and/or direct therapy to students with communication disorders, impaired articulation, language impairment or voice disorders.

Visually Impaired

A teacher of the visually impaired, who works closely with the Commission for the Blind and Visually Disabled, is available to provide direct service to students, including direct remedial instruction, strengthening other sensory areas and the use of specialized equipment when appropriate.

Occupational/Physical Therapy Services

Occupational and physical therapists provide occupational and physical therapy on an individual or small group basis for students whose IEPs indicate a need for this service. Occupational and physical therapists work with teachers to support programs within the classrooms.

Counseling

Counseling services are delivered by New York State Certified Social Workers who focus on issues that are preventing the individual student from benefiting from an education. The service is delivered as prescribed on each student’s IEP.

One-to-One Aides and One-to-One Teaching Assistants

One-to-one aides provide mobility, feeding and toileting and monitor individual activities as directed by a teacher. One-to-one teaching assistants provide, under the supervision of a certified teacher, direct instructional service to an individual student. These staff function as part of the classroom team. These services must be indicated on the student’s IEP.

Interpreters

Dutchess BOCES employs signed English interpreters. These interpreters are an essential component for the successful education of deaf students. The intensive support given by interpreters is significant in developing academic and social skills necessary for post-secondary opportunities.

Job Coach Services

Job coach services are available for students who have this related service identified on their IEP. Services include developing job sites and/or providing supervision for students at the workplace.

Hearing Impaired

Serving students in grades K-12, the program provides academic support and utilizes total communication for those who are hearing impaired. Interpreters are provided as necessary.
