Homework and Research Resources

• The Dutchess School Library System has gathered a collection of links to VERY helpful resources, such as WebPAC, the Web Public Access Catalog, where you can find (and even reserve) books, etc. in several libraries located throughout Dutchess County. The site also includes links to several online research databases. Please "check it out"!
• Lifelines: Homework resources for parents and librarians to help students in grades K-4. This site is designed to support public schools and libraries in Dutchess County as they work cooperatively to help all Kindergarten through Grade 4 students in their communities achieve mastery in reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is maintained by the Mid-Hudson Library System in collaboration with Dutchess BOCES & the NYS Technology Literacy Challenge Fund Grant.
• Thinkquest: A great resource for research and help with almost any topic. Thinkquest contains libraries of links to educational web sites created by students for students. Classes can even contribute their own work to the site.
• Federal Resources for Students: A list of links to student areas of various organizations' web sites. Includes links to student areas for museums, NASA, environmental agencies, and many other government organizations.
• High School Ace: An online learning center for teens. It features academic subject guides, reference tools, and college prep resources.
• Homework Planet: A guide for students to find homework help, research resources, tutoring resources, and college information.

• NYS High School Regents Exam Prep Center
• SAT Prep Plan: "The SAT Prep Plan site contains SAT practice problems, a customized SAT preparation plan, SAT problem solving videos, SAT vocabulary flash cards and free online SAT test preparation books and materials. Everything on the site is completely free to students and educators."
• Test Prep Review: Your source for free practice tests, including the SAT.
• The College Board: Contains information about preparing for the SATs, taking the SATs, finding the right college, and paying for college. You can also find the nearest SAT testing location and sign up online.
  
  

College Information

• CollegeNET: A great resource for applying to colleges. You can fill out online applications for over 1500 college and university programs.
• College View: Search a database of 3800 schools to find the one that is right for you. Also contains articles on what to look for when trying to find a college based on your major.
• Financial Aid Facts: The goal of FinaidFacts.org is to provide a free and accurate financial aid resource for students progressing in their education.
• New York State Higher Education Service Corporation: The NYS Higher Education Servie Corporation is the state agency that helps people pay for college. HESC administers the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and 25 other grant, scholarship, and loan programs, guarantees federal student and parent loans, offers guidance for college planning, and provides a highly-rated 529 college savings plan.
• Peterson's Educational Portal: Contains resources to help you find a college, write an admissions essay, and apply for financial aid.
• Scholarship Help and Advice Center: The goal of this website is to educate students about scholarship access and the necessary requirements for achieving maximum financial aid. They explain how college funding works, the types of scholarships available, how to find them and how to apply for them. In addition, they provide their information free of charge.

Local Programs

• The Summer Scholars Program (SSP) is a two-week residential program for high achieving students attending high schools in Dutchess County. The Summer Scholars Program provides challenging academic opportunities for a selected number of 10th and 11th graders from high schools in Dutchess County.  Students who are invited to participate will have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, intellectual potential, and creativity as evidenced in their SSP application. Career Exploration

• CareerZone is a free, career exploration and planning system designed especially for New York State students. The CareerZone website brings together multiple sources of career and labor market information to make career exploration and planning for the future a little easier. The CareerZone system is a product of the New York State Department of Labor and is currently hosted by AT&T.
• Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board: The mission of the DCWIB is to foster a skilled and competitive workforce by promoting an understanding of workforce trends and issues in a dynamic economy and to facilitate lifelong learning for individuals and businesses. The DCWIB is positioned to engage the community and together define the look and versatility of the Dutchess County workforce, on both the supply and demand sides.

• Learning to Live in a Technical World: The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national non-profit organization devoted exclusively to the needs of elementary, middle and high school students with a dedicated interest in technology. Assisting TSA's student members is a strong support system of educators, alumni, parents and business leaders who believe in the importance of a technologically literate society.
