Students from the Dutchess BOCES Career and Technical Institute visited Barnes and Noble in Poughkeepsie on November 1st to explore the topic of children’s literature. These high school students, enrolled in CTI’s Early Childhood Education program, learned about book selection, displaying literature to appeal to children, selecting books suited for reading aloud, and choosing suitable companion crafts for youngsters.
Congratulations to the new graduates who were honored October 19th for earning their high school equivalency diplomas while studying at the Dutchess BOCES Adult Learning Institute (ALI). The graduates were celebrated at a ceremony held at the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie.

Dutchess BOCES hosted the Dutchess County School Safety Advisory Committee’s 10th annual safety seminar October 17 at the Career and Technical Institute. More than 85 participants attended the workshop, which focused on various safety and legal issues.
Janice M. Severson, Project Coordinator for New York Safe Schools Program, spoke about requirements and changes to New York State Education Department regulations. She indicated the required safety plan submissions are reviewed to identify any gaps so that training can be developed to meet school districts’ needs. “We plan for emergencies to help protect our children,” she said.
Dutchess BOCES School of Practical Nursing has limited seating for January 2018.
The last admission test for January 2018 is October 31, 2017.

Chef toques off to Amanda Scoca who was named to the top ten in the National SkillsUSA Competition for her culinary chops.
Amanda, a Pawling High School student who is now in her senior year in the Dutchess BOCES Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management Program, competed in Kentucky at the end of June after being named top student in New York State. She was the first 11th grade student to earn a berth at the prestigious national competition.
