Students from the Dutchess BOCES district-based class at Pawling High School gave a special concert at a local nursing home on December 16, 2009, to help spread holiday wishes and good cheer. Some of the residents sang along as students sang Christmas and Hanukkah songs.
The children practiced singing together for several weeks leading up to the concert and even used musical instruments such as finger cymbals, tambourines, maracas, and of course, sleigh bells. Some of the students participate in a work program at the nursing home for several hours a day two days a week.
"I am very proud of our class," said BOCES Teacher Martha Schultz. "They worked hard and learned all their songs. We are so happy to have had the chance to perform."
The Dutchess BOCES program at Pawling High School serves special needs students ages 14 through 21.
