Inside - Out: Jail Program Services |
Our Mission
To reduce recidivism by helping individuals become productive members of the community after release.
| The importance of this mission is demonstrated by the fact that over 90% of inmates released from the Dutchess County Jail will stay and live in Dutchess County. |
To accomplish our mission, educational, job readiness, life management, and employment services are provided to individuals while incarcerated and after release.
To serve the needs of our clients, collaborative relationships have been developed with support from the County Executive and Sheriff's Department. These relationships are with Community Agencies, Employers, Educational Agencies, Employment Agencies, State and County Agencies, Probation and Parole Departments, Housing Rental Agencies, Group Homes, and others...
Staff serve on a variety of Criminal Justice Committees and/or sub committees, such as: The County's Criminal Justice Council, Prevention Committee, Crime Victims Mediation Committee, Youth in the Criminal Justice Committee, WIA's Youth Council, Housing Committee, Weed and Seed, and more...
The interactions on these committees facilitate the sharing of information and reduce duplication of effort. They help our programs to be targeted and cost effective, resulting in better services to the clients and the community.
Our Services
Collaborating with the Dutchess County Jail staff, BOCES staff cooperatively serve the clients from incarceration through release.

OUTSIDE
Post-Release Follow-Up: Follow-up upon release is an extremely important component of services. The first few weeks and months after release are critical times for clients.
Appropriate follow-up will help reduce recidivism.
To meet this need, a Transition Office has been established at the Family Partnership Center, Room L-03.
Inmates are advised of this service and the location while incarcerated. They are encouraged to come and seek assistance from the staff.
The office is available to Dutchess County Jail Transition staff assigned to post release activities. Again, BOCES and Jail staff work cooperatively to provide necessary services to the clients.
In addition to the referrals, advocacy and job placement assistance, assistance obtaining appropriate interview clothing is provided.
One-on-one placement assistance is supplemented with group sessions conducted by Jail and BOCES staff, when appropriate, to address given needs.
BOCES and Jail Transition staff are continually establishing links with the community to assist clients with their personal and employment transition needs.
