Course Description:
The New Visions: Education exploration is designed for seniors in high school who are anticipating careers in the field of education. Students will be exposed to a variety to education careers and have the opportunity to explore a variety of roles on both the instructional and administrative level. Experiences will reflect all levels of education from pre-school through graduate school. Settings and private education arenas are anticipated.
Program Objectives:
- Students will begin career explorations and gain indepth knowledge of the current educational system.
- Students will work with instructional personnel on the pre-school, elementary, middle and high school level.
- Students will work with instructional personnel in a private and/or public post-secondary and graduate institution.
- Students will work with instructional personnel responsible for the instruction of non-traditional populations, e.g., the physically, mentally and academically challenged.
- Students will work with administrative and support personnel responsible for the execution of instruction from pre-school to graduate level education. For example:

- Students will be able to identify and articulate the legal and political entities that influence education in the community, state, national and international levels.
- Students will be able to identify and articulate the economic forces that impact education on the community, state, national and international levels in public and private educational institutions.

Student Eligibility Requirements:
The New Visions Education student must:
- Be a senior in a Dutchess BOCES component district.
- Have demonstrated an interest and desire to learn about education careers.
- Be academically sound and have met graduation requirements prior to acceptance into the program.
- Exhibit a high level of responsibility and maturity, with the ability to work in a variety of professional settings.
- Be highly conscientious and motivated to succeed.
- Be recommended by a teacher or guidance counselor and the principal.
- Plan to attend college.
- Be able to provide his/her own transportation to and from the educational settings.
